Cliona on PPN Secretariat
Cliona Kelliher from Kilcullen has become a member of the Secretariat of the Kildare Public Participation Network.
PPNs were set up in 2014 to provide local community groups around the country with a way to link into their Council more directly. The PPN structure is based on three Pillars or Colleges — Community & Voluntary, Social Inclusion and Environmental. All community groups can join under one of these headings and have a voice at the Plenary which meets twice a year and sets the Agenda for the PPN.
The Secretariat is the group that co-ordinates the PPN activities and its function is also to communicate with the wider PPN community. PPN reps can sit on Local Government Strategic Policy Committees and Groups.
The benefits of joining the PPN are many – access to training and information is very useful for developing clubs and organisations. It is also an opportunity to link in with other groups around the country and get ideas from them or share your own expertise. It will give access to up to date news on funding, grants from the Local Authority, and is a chance to advertise club activities.
"There are quite a few funding opportunities out there as well as training and different things so it’s worthwhile for clubs to join up," says Cliona, who hopes that her involvement will be of help both to relevant matters for Kilcullen groups and for wider environmental matters.
The revamped website www.kildareppn.ie is where community groups can find all the information they need here to register.
