Second phase of Fairy Trail planned

Busy Valley earlier this summer.
A Post Box for letters to fairies, more fairy boards, and the possibility of using the Valley water feature as a Wishing Well are proposed elements for the second phase of the Fairy Trail, writes Brian Byrne.

This was the focus of a discussion at last night's meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, which also heard that there will be some special events on the Trail coming up towards Christmas.

Antoinette Buckley, who spearheaded the original project, said they were looking at a launch of the second phase in October or November. "For Christmas we plan some events like storytelling sessions, to get the children excited."

KCA chair Ann Cashman said the family and children usage of the Valley since the Fairy Trail was established has been 'tremendous'.

Celia Travers and Steve Kinneavy agreed that instances of anti-social behaviour in the Valley seem to have been almost eliminated since the increase in families use.

"It just shows what can happen if you improve the experience," Antoinette Buckley said. "We just have to keep thinking outside the box."

On the prospect of a Wishing Well, it was noted that coins were regularly thrown into the water feature, and this might be developed in keeping with the Fairy Trail.

A suggestion was made that a wire mesh could be placed under the water level to ensure that coins wouldn't be taken out, except by KCA. A sign could be installed to explain where the money collected was going.

"We should try it," Antoinette Buckley said.
