Hollywood Fair this weekend

The Hollywood Fair takes place this weekend, an event that generally attracts quite a number of visitors from Kilcullen, writes Brian Byrne.

With a theme of how life was pre-1950, the two-day festival will kick off with traditional food in the two local inns from 2pm on Saturday, along with an exhibition of old photographs, and an afternoon tea 'Downton Abbey' style in the Ceidhli House.

A traditional Latin Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Eamonn Walsh in Tutty's Field from 6pm, with a full choir singing traditional hymns. A local art exhibition will offer interest until an historical re-enactment of the 'Flooding of the Lakes' at 7.45pm.

There will be entertainment from both Junior and Senior 'Music under the Mountains' bands on the main stage from 8.30pm.

Sheepdog trials will be held at 10.30am on the Sunday. Other events of the day include an official opening by Minister for Health Simon Harris TD, hand shearing and vintage machine shearing, a talk on violin-making, set dancing, Irish dancing, falconry and more.

It is the eighth Fair, and as usual those attending are asked to dress in pre-1950s attire.
