KCC updating Noise Action Plan
A draft update to Kildare County Council's Noise Action Plan may be of interest to those living in estates close to the motorway, writes Brian Byrne.
Noise has been an issue in that part of Kilcullen since at least 2015.
Can we do something about motorway noise?
Cnoc na Greine four times noisier than town?
Council to raise motorway noise with NRA
This Draft County Kildare Third Noise Action Plan 2019-2023 has regard to noise generated only by “Major Roads” and “Major Railways” in the county. A “Major Road” means a public road which has more than three million vehicle passages per year.
(BB Note: The M9 at Kilcullen qualifies — the Annual Average Daily Traffic count at Crookstown according to TII is in excess of 22,000 vehicle passages a day, or over 8m a year. HGVs account for around 8.6pc of the total.)
This Draft Plan does not apply to noise caused by an exposed person, noise from domestic activities, noise created by neighbours, noise at places of work, noise inside means of transport, or noise due to military activities in military areas.
The Draft Plan will be available for public inspection (excluding weekends and bank holidays) during normal opening hours at all Public Libraries in the county and at the offices of Kildare County Council, Level 4, Áras Chill Dara Devoy Park, Naas from Thursday, 25 July 2019 to close of business on Friday, 16 August 2019.
The Draft Plan will be available on the Kildare County Council website from Thursday, 25 July 2019.
Submissions may be made in writing to the Senior Executive Officer, Roads, Transportation & Public Safety Department, Level 4, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas or by email to noise@kildarecoco.ie on or before 4.00 p.m. on Friday, 30 August 2019.
All comments, including names of those making comments submitted to the council in regard to this Plan, as outlined above, will form part of the Final Plan.
