The Kilcullen 700 'Pastimes from our Past Times' competition sponsored by Bank of Ireland was officially kicked off this morning, in Kilcullen's branch of the Bank, writes Brian Byrne.

A presentation of a Kilcullen 700 plaque was also made to the branch by Nessa Dunlea, Chair of Kilcullen 700. Leaflets about the competition will be distributed locally.

Businesses, clubs and other organisations in the town are being invited to put up small exhibitions on the theme in their premises for National Heritage Week, 17-25 August. There's an open brief for the format, which could range from window displays where appropriate to exhibit collections, tableaux, or photographs and other visual materials.

The exhibitions will be judged by Clodagh Hughes, Bank of Ireland, and Lucina Russell, Heritage Officer with Kildare County Council.
