New palace for Ice Age Fairy
This is the latest arrival on the Kilcullen Valley Fairy Trail, a new home — quite a palatial one — for the Ice Age Fairy, writes Brian Byrne.
So why would there be a fairy related to the Ice Age? Because the conglomerate rock on top of which the new home is placed is believed to be a remnant of the Quaternary Ice Age, which started around 2.6 million years ago and ended just 10,000 years or so ago. It would have been deposited from the wildly flowing waters of the melting ice in what eventually became today's Valley Park.
So when your children ask, remind them that it's a special rock, and very much needs its own fairy to make sure we all know how important it is.
