Remembering the Kilcullen Girls National School Class of 1969

Do you remember the summer of '69?, writes Mary Orford. Do you still know the words to songs such as 'Boom bang-a-bang', 'The lonely woods of Upton' or 'Lily the Pink'?

Were you a part of the Golden class in Kilcullen Girls National School that said goodbye to the green gym-slip and took the first steps into adulthood in 1969?

This is a shout out to all my former classmates to join in a class reunion in June, 2019. It would be wonderful to have us all together so please contact Mary Orford at kilcullengnsreunion@gmail.com for all the details.

Editor's note: There were other things of possibly equal significance to the launching the Class of '69 on an unsuspecting world — the Boeing 747 made its public debut, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon (and Snoopy the Astronaut was appointed NASA's safety mascot), the half crown was withdrawn from circulation, Muriel Day sang 'The Wages of Love' for Ireland in the Eurovision, and the Beatles gave their last live performance on the roof of the Apple building. More seriously, riots in Derry were the first confrontation of the Troubles.
