Kilcock and Libya combine for Moat Theatre treat

What promises to be an intriguing and entertaining combination will happen in the Moat Theatre, Naas, on 30 May when the Kilcock Men’s Shed Choir and Libyan singer Farah Elle come together to perform traditional sounds from Ireland and North Africa.

Through the common language of music Abair/Samaa (Speak/Listen) explores the connected themes of tradition, identity, otherness and emigration. Musical performances are intercut with moments of personal and historical reflections across generations, cultures and genders.

Abair/Samaa is a new commission and the piece is an intercultural choral performance by musical director Eimear Crehan, singer songwriter Farah Elle and theatre maker Rachel Bergin. This performance marks the culmination of the project which was commissioned by Age & Opportunity for this year’s Bealtaine Festival.

The project takes its inspiration from the 2019 festival theme, ‘Be our Guest’, celebrating the ideas of Welcome and Hosting.

Audiences of all ages are invited to come and join an uplifting, joyful and celebratory choral performance on 30 May in Moat Theatre, which promises to be a truly special experience. Tickets are available from the theatre.

Abair/Samaa is supported by Kildare County Council and produced by Brokentalkers. The Bealtaine Festival is supported by the Arts Council and the Health Service Executive.
