Call for Community Tea Party participation

The organisers of a Kilcullen 700 Tea Party event planned for July are looking for contacts and volunteers from all areas of Kilcullen interested in taking part, writes Brian Byrne.

The idea is being led by Derek Phelan, who suggests that each area, such as an estate or residents group, would arrange their own local event starting at midday on Sunday 21 July.

"After these, all would make their way to the Community Centre where a larger event will take place from around 2.30pm, organised by myself and some colleagues," Derek says. "The idea is tea, coffee, soft drinks and food while playing games, singing and dancing for young and old all organised by each area."

Derek believes that the community spirit of the 'old days' in Kilcullen has diminished somewhat because of the increased population. "Everybody knew everybody, and a great community existed. When we meet in the Community Centre all areas will have the chance to interact which will be encouraged by the activities that will take place."

Anyone willing to get involved can contact Derek at 087 8094900 or derekphelan02@gmail.com.
