Kilcullen cyclist has first Senior road win
On Sunday in Carrick-on-Suir, JB Murphy won the Bobby Power memorial road race over 120k, writes Liam Walker. JB was active through the race, being in the break from the start.
The weather was showery with a strong headwind on the second part of the lap which was covered six times. Attacking the five remaining riders in the break with 400 metres to the finish, JB was clear at the finish beating his six-day partner Fintan Ryan into second place.
This was JB's first road race win since he turned senior after doing his Leaving Cert last year. This win comes after concentrating on the track, learning his trade against the top riders in the world as he raced in Hong Kong, Melbourne, London and Berlin.
JB will spend the next few months at home riding on the road. He has already been selected to represent Leinster in RAS Mugham over the four days of Easter. The race, which is based in Kerry, will include some teams from Europe and Great Britain.
