Funding available for 'The Big Hello'
Community groups across Kildare are being encouraged to apply for grants from an initiative aimed at organising a community 'get-together' event, writes Brian Byrne.
Under the banner of 'The Big Hello', the idea is that local groups get involved in the first National Community Weekend, scheduled to take place over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Local Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon says the plan will support communities to host events in their local area in order to strengthen community ties and help tackle the problem of social isolation. "Our community spirit is immense and Fine Gael will ensure every support is made available to foster and develop this unique Irish attribute," he adds.
A sum of €10,000 has been allocated to Kildare County Council in support of the initiative, and Deputy Heydon strongly urges local community and volunteer groups to apply for some of it.
The Big Hello is an initiative of the Department of Community and Rural Development.
