Electric cars invite for St Patrick's Day Parade

Nissan Leaf, best seller so far this year in Kildare.

Owners of electric cars in the Kilcullen area are invited to drive them in the St Patrick's Day Parade next Sunday, writes Brian Byrne.

A number of such cars are already committed to the parade, but the Kilcullen Community Action organisers are keen for more to come along.

The cars will symbolise the plans for Kilcullen to become a Sustainable Energy Community, a status for which it has applied to the SEAI.

Some 49 new electric cars have been registered in Kildare so far this year, up from just nine in the same period last year. Of these, 22 are Nissan Leafs and 20 are Hyundai Kona Electric models.
