Fianna Fail leader in Kilcullen this morning
The Leader of Fianna Fail, Michael Martin TD, visited Kilcullen this morning as part of a trip around Kildare South in advance of the local elections scheduled for next May, writes Brian Byrne.
He was welcomed by Antoinette Buckley, the Kilcullen-based candidate for Fianna Fail in the Newbridge LEA, Deputy Fiona McLoughlin of Kildare South, and Noel Clare and Nessa Dunlea representing the Kilcullen community.
Nessa and Noel outlined the background to the Kilcullen 700 celebrations this year, marking the 700th anniversary of the first bridge built over the Liffey at this location.
During his visit Deputy Martin met with local people, spent time in Berneys Saddlers and An Tearmann and Nolans, and visited Conroy Park, named after Antoinette's late grandmother Mary Conroy, a strong activist in the community in the 1950s and 1960s.
