A few words about Liam
I’ve decided not to write my normal match report on this occasion, writes Enda O'Neill of Kilcullen Badminton Club, and instead dedicate a few words to Liam Sherry, a real community man and a founding member of Kilcullen Badminton Club along with Marie Kelly back in 1982.
I never had the pleasure of seeing Liam in action, but from speaking to former members and team mates he was described as an enthusiastic member of the club who gave his all when on the courts.
“Liam was an intelligent player who would make you work hard to win your points” said Ronan Murphy who played on teams with Liam in the day. Liam was one of the most experienced team members in both Mixed and Mens disciplines, he played in the South West Land and Kildare league for many years.
In 1984 Liam was on the winning team that won the Kildare League and brought our first trophy and medals to Kilcullen Badminton Club. Liam also represented County Kildare at inter county level. In the club he was always willing to lend a hand, give solid advice and help the younger less experienced players.
Anyone who knew Liam would only say good things about this friendly, quiet gentleman, a man who always gave his all in whatever he was involved in. He will be sadly missed by his family, the community and his many friends.
Our condolences go to Liam’s wife Mary and his family.
