Mixed fortunes for KBC in South West Leagues

There were mixed fortunes for the Rags this week in the South West League, writes Kilcullen Badminton Club Match Secretary Enda O'Neill. Barry O’Neill and his Grade 3 B Mens team had secured a semi final spot by topping their group and awaited to see who they would meet as Oisin Egan and his Kilcullen Grade 3A team faced Portlaoise in a semi final playoff on 22 November.

Unfortunately it didn’t go well for Oisin and the lads who never really got going in this one against Port and the lads were dumped out 3-0 by a strong side. So it was up to Barry and his team to try get revenge on the victorious Port side. 26 November, the date and Carlow YM the venue. After a bad start for KBC with both first and second loosing in very close games, Owen Wallace and Shochan Andrews gave KBC a life line when they won the third mens in 3 sets. This meant that Barry and Enda O’Neill had to win there game in two sets to bring it to points countback. In a hard fought and tense set the Kilcullen boys lost the set 21-18, a hard way to crash out of the league. Hard luck to both Grade 3 Mens teams. Thanks though to all that travelled to support the B’s in their semi final clash.

Teresa McGlynn and her Grade 6 Ladies also had to play in a semi final playoff against Carlow LTC. Our Ladies pulled it out of the bag beating Carlow LTC in a great match setting up a semi final clash against Mountmellick. Thursday 29 November our “Ragettes” travelled to Carlow YM for their semi final clash and in a great 3-0 win beat MountMellick setting up a League Final match against Portlaoise on Friday 6 December. Good luck to captain Teresa, Lynda Murtagh, Orla Brophy and Maeve Valroy.

Also good luck to Tara O’Neill, Lynsey Walsh, Sinead Kelly and Siobhan Willis in their Grade 2 Ladies Final which is against Carlow YM on Tuesday night. The girls have been unstoppable so far this year and both Ladies teams have been leading the way and flying the flag for the club in the Souoth West League this season.
In the Dublin League Jen Monaghan’s Div 5 Mix team got the train back on track against St. Brigids on Thursday 22 Nov with an impressive 4-0 win. Well done Jen, Chelsey Cox, Vincent Coller and Bardy O’Neill in a great win.

Finally good luck to all our teams competing in their matches next week.
