New Garden Room enhances Kalbarri experience
A recently constructed Garden Room at Kalbarri Cookery School is the latest facility in a business which has grown to be one of Kilcullen's food focal points.
What began as Siobhan Murphy demonstrating cooking and baking tips in her own kitchen to interested locals has become in a small few years a fully-fledged school of cooking for adults and children, a space to hold family and other celebrations, and a place to discover how to put sustainable and wholesome — and very flavoursome — food on our tables.
The new Garden Room isn't Kalbarri's largest area, but it is designed to enhance the dining experience for groups of up 14 people. Built by Christy Keogh, it offers a welcoming space with a soothing soft interior of exposed salvaged wooden beams and humble natural textures. These blend with pretty wallpaper and warm earthy green tones, which are complemented by the trees outside that hug the room.
In this rustic charm, visitors can enjoy the heart-warming dishes that reflect Siobhan's love of simple cooking, brought to table in a tasting menu of some of Kalbarri's favourite dishes.
For larger parties, the 40-place Lantern Room has been newly decorated, and the fare on offer can be seen on the Kalbarri School's website.
As the evenings shorten, and the run down towards Christmas begins, it is worth taking note that Siobhan is offering a fully cooked Christmas dinner for pick-up from Kalbarri on Christmas Day. Thus relieving the stress and exhaustion of shopping and cooking — all conveniently packaged to eliminate pot-washing and priced at €50 per head.
To set up this feast of creamy root vegetables soup; black pudding with wholegrain mustard and lime dressing; turkey and ham with fresh herb stuffing, gravy, honey glazed carrots, Brussels sprouts, mash and roasties; plum pudding and fresh berry roulade; contact Siobhan on 087 2932501.
Kalbarri kids baking classes will recommence in January. Young adult classes are currently running Fridays for all abilities. Why not invite your family to Kalbarri for a baking experience with supper afterwards? — the ideal Christmas gift.
