Kilcullen man's gold medal win in Croatia

Kilcullen's Ronan Foley has won a gold medal for Ireland in the canoe marathon European Championships in Croatia, writes Brian Byrne.

His K1 junior champion feat in Metkovic today came as he beat Danish and Hungarian fellow-paddlers with whom he had left the main group in the race early on.

It's young Ronan's second big win of the year — he won another gold in May at the Canoe World Cup in Portugal.

And his performance is the result of very hard work and persistence over several years. He brought home silver and bronze from the same World Cup event last year (pic above, Ronan is wearing the 115 bib).
