Kilcullen rugby players in McGowan U13 Cup Final win
There was more success for the young rugby players of Kilcullen over the Bank Holiday weekend, writes Neil Taylor of Newbridge Rugby Football Club.
Following on from the Kilcullen U11 Community Games Leinster Final win the Newbridge RFC Under 13s contested the Leinster U13 McGowan Cup Final in Donnybrook on Monday. It was a huge occasion, contested by two great teams graced by a phenomenal performance from the Newbridge squad.
The victorious squad are pictured after the trophy ceremony which capped an incredible season for these young men. They also won the North Midland League and were runners up in the Leinster Premier League. In the Cup Final they were pushed to the limit by an excellent Naas RFC side and dug deep to secure a sweet win. They showed great resilience, team work, courage, flair and a huge appetite to work for each other to secure victory. The quality of rugby on display from both teams was of the highest order with skill, speed, game awareness and defensive resolve on display in abundance. The final score was 12-5 in favour of Newbridge with their scores coming from Luke Bagnall (Try) and a Try & Conversion from Paddy Taylor.
The squad is drawn from a wide area with players from Newbridge, Athgarvan, The Curragh, Ballitore, Brannoxtown, Calverstown, Dunlavin and Kilcullen among their ranks. Kilcullen boys involved included Jack Acton, Adam England, Jack Jordan Doyle, Paddy Taylor and team Captain Max Gaynor.
All in and associated with Newbridge RFC are rightly proud of the squad's achievements this season. They are great ambassadors for the rugby development and progress being made on all fronts within the Club. We wish them all the very best for the Summer and in all their other sporting commitments.
Finally, we as a club would like to publicly thank their parents, guardians and families for their enduring commitment to and support for the boys’ development through Rugby. Bravo to all!
