Book Week In Scoil Bhríde

Scoil Bhríde’s annual ‘Book Week’ took place from Monday 8 to Friday 12 May, writes Deirdre Hoctor. This was a very enjoyable week for everyone with lots of activities and events organised.

Storytellers Liz Weir and Seosamh ó Maolalaí visited the school, and of course our own librarian Julie O Donoghue shared stories with the Infant classes. We had our annual ‘Readathon’ which was greatly supported and the funds raised will contribute to the purchase of new books and resources for literacy. The week ended on a high note with the ‘Character Walk’ around the school where each child dressed up as their favourite character or a character from their favourite book.

Woodbine Books were a fantastic support to our Book Week. Saoirse from Woodbine read stories to our Infant classes with each child receiving a free book. They also organised a short story competition entitled ‘Change’ for our 6th classes.

The winners received Woodbine book vouchers. Ellen Coleman won 1st Prize €50 voucher, Dawson Conroy 2nd Prize €25 voucher and 3rd prize Caoimhe Strain €15 voucher. The standard of entries was so high four highly commended prizes were also awarded and they received book vouchers for €10 each. We wish to thank Woodbine books for their generous prizes and also for the books they donated to our class libraries.

Books for School Year 2016/17
Woodbine will be supplying Primary and Post-Primary school books forthwith. Scoil Bhríde will give them our book lists so all books should be in stock. They also offer a book covering service. This is a great amenity to have in Kilcullen. We thank them for their tremendous support and wish them every success with all ventures.
