Gareth's static cycle video for Lions' Hospice project

Have you ever wanted to use your bicycle as a static machine for those days that you really don’t want to be out on the actual roads? writes Brian Byrne.

Well, Kilcullen Lions Club member Gareth Landy has put together a comprehensive short video showing just how to do that.

His aim was to demonstrate other Lions clubs how to set up static bicycle fundraiser events like the one Kilcullen Lions are holding in outside Whitewater M&S on the weekend of 10/11 June, in aid of the Kildare Hospice.

Now all Lions clubs in the Kildare area will use the model for their own fundraising events in aid of the Hospice, which is currently undergoing a €6m rebuild on the Curragh.

“They still need to raise another €1m for the project,” says Antoinette Buckley, one of the sub-committee from Kilcullen Lions working on this particular fundraiser, with Gareth and Paul Carey.

“We also still need volunteers for the Bag Pack which we’re having in M&S from 8 June through Sunday 11 June. “It will be just a 2-hour slot per volunteer over the period if we get enough people to help.”

You can watch Gareth’s video here. Apart from the static part, it’s also a really good information piece on gearing up properly for road cycling.
