Local cyclist wins National Cyclo Cross
Yesterday in Tullymore Park in Newcastle, Co Down, JB Murphy won the National Cyclo Cross Championship in very impressive fashion, writes Liam Walker.
He bided his time on the first of five laps to judge how the rest of the field were going on the testing course. Then, when JB made it to the front of the race he set about setting his own pace which saw him win by over two minutes back to his nearest rival, John Buller from Bambridge, with Eoighn McCarty from Enniskillen a further minute back in third place.
JB — who comes from Athgarvan — hopes that his performance will impress the selectors enough to get selected for the World Championships in Luxembourg at the end of the month. His next preparation race is next Sunday in Stornmount.
