Council preparing safety audit team for Thompson's Cross work

Kildare County Council’s Transportation Department is in the process of appointing an Audit Team to carry out a safety audit on the works recently done at Thompson’s Cross, writes Brian Byrne.

Councillors at this afternoon’s meeting of the Naas Municipal District were told this by officials, on foot of a motion by Cllr Rob Power asking that such an audit be carried out from a pedestrian, cyclist and motorist point of view.

A similar motion by Cllr Martin Miley at last week’s Athy MD meeting was referred to this afternoon’s meeting. Both motions also called for Transport Infrastucture Ireland and
Kildare County Council to provide a roundabout at this location.

Officials told the council members that if they were in agreement, a letter can be issued to Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the National Roads Authority regarding the provision of funding for a roundabout.

(Little Voice in my Head: “Would it not have been appropriate for a safety audit to be carried out before the works were put in train?”)
