Ruth Murphy first Irish woman across today's Boston line
The first Irish woman to cross the finish line in today's Boston Marathon was Ruth Murphy, pictured here with her aunt, Susan Patterson Catan.
Ruth ran the course in 2 hours 52 minutes. It was Boston's 129th Marathon in the year 2025. Which by an amazing coincidence is reflected in her own race number. There were 28,799 participants, and Ruth crossed the line in 143rd place among 12,444 women in the event.
It was Ruth's third marathon. A proud Siobhan told the Diary, "if you love what you do, you'll be good at it, and Ruth loves to run."
