KBC All Ireland
Sunday 8 May saw Kilcullen's Grade 4 Mix team travel to Baldoyle Badminton Centre to compete in the All Ireland Inter League Cup Championships and what a great experience it turned out to be. The Kilcullen side qualified for the competition by winning the Division 6 Dublin District Cup earlier in the year.
The eight person squad had an early match against the Munster champions, the game started at 10am on courts 1 and 2. It wasn't the dream start that the KBC crew would have wished for and they were beaten 6-1 by a well coached Munster side, as it is in many sports the result didn’t reflect how close this match was.
Men's 1 were beaten in three sets as were mix 1 and mix 2 and if we had taken these games along with the ladies 1 win, KBC could have won the match 4-3!. This defeat meant that Kilcullen had to play their Connaught rivals straight away.
KBC shared the spoils in the singles in tough games. Tara and Siobhan then won their Ladies and Alan and Ray won their Men's, putting KBC 3-1 ahead and only needing to take one of the three mix to win the match. Siobhan and captain Ray obliged winning the first mix in a great three setter, Connaught did manage to take the mix 2 and mix 3 games but it was too little too late and KBC won the match 4-3.
Munster and Connaught now had to play each other for the order of merit, Munster won this contest in style beating Connacht 6-1. This result also insured KBC’s and Leinster's second place in the competition.
Well done to our Lenister Champions Ray, Tara, Jen, Siobhan, Sarah, Alan, Enda and John on a fantastic season, the whole team have played and trained hard all year and the results have showed how their hard work paid off. A well earned rest is now on the cards for the gang.
The team would like to thank the guys and girls who subbed in for us during the season. The team would especially like to thank Caroline, Sinead, Mick Dave J Paddy (the amigo!) O’Connell and all the people who’ve travelled to the various venues all season to support us in our matches and finals. You guys have been the ninth man on our team and we really could not have done it without you.
Finally the committee would like to remind all members that our AGM is on May 26th and our club night out is May 27th and of course all are welcome even if you are past or not currently members!!
