Litter at recycling bank
Here's a post-Christmas hangover at Kilcullen's glass and cans recycling facility in the car park of Leinster Marts, writes Brian Byrne.
The rules clearly say that boxes should not be left there. And by doing so, people are threatening the existence of the facility, which is thanks to the good offices of the Leinster Marts organisation and their local staff.
"While it is obviously great to see the bottle bank being used, it is a pity to see that some people are leaving boxes and bags scattered around," says Noel Clare of Kilcullen Tidy Towns. "Besides being unsightly it is also unfair on the management of the mart who have so kindly agreed to have the facility on their property."
Many local authorities are asking people to stagger their recycling — the post Christmas rush to recycle can put pressure on facilities and the result is that bottle banks cannot be emptied quickly enough to keep up with the demand.
So please, don't put the facility at risk. Play by the rules ... or we'll have to start bringing our glass to Silliot Hill or Newbridge again. Which would be a real pity.
