Billy's Story, So Far!
Whenever your editor hears people telling stories about their family and friends of the past, I regularly say they should write it all down, if for no better reason than that their own children and grandchildren will know where they came from, writes Brian Byrne.
Well, one person who has never needed this advice is longtime Bridge Magazine contributor and all-round community man Billy Redmond, who not only has written his own memories of growing up in Kilcullen and his later career in the Irish Defence Forces, but has had it all printed for his family.
Billy's Story, So Far! is a 64-page magazine with pictures, anecdotes, and some of Billy's own verse too. 'Launched' last week in a family setting where he gave each member a copy, it's a fascinating account of a Kilcullen past, people gone, and the early days of the Irish army's peacekeeping in the Congo.
It isn't on general release, but if you can tease a copy of this very limited edition publication from Billy, it's a really fascinating read. He told the Diary that he can now get down to writing 'all the stuff I left out'. The production is by Clare Print.
