Maureen retires from playgroup

Maureen Keogh has retired from the Kilcullen Community Playgroup after more than three decades of involvement.

A large crowd of friends and well-wishers organised an event in the White Horse Inn on Wednesday night to mark the moment.

The playgroup was set up in 1974 with the backing of Kilcullen Community Council.

Over the years it has been located in a number of different premises, the most recent of which has been a pre-fab building on the Kilcullen Community Centre campus.

The organisation is currently trying to complete negotiations to acquire a permanent home on the campus.

Planning permission for a permanent building was acquired in 2007, and the playgroup has been promised funding by Pobal.
