Mathiske's Musical Magic

Next Monday, October 3, sees the return of gifted Australian fingerstyle guitarist Bruce Mathiske to the Ballymore Inn.

Playing since the tender age of seven and practicing ten hours a day in his early years, Bruce exhibits technical mastery of his instrument rarely seen.

Combining Classical, Blues, Jazz, Flamenco and folk styles, he creates the most amazing sounds so that if you close your eyes you'll hear two and sometimes three guitars in the mix. Except that you won't! There is only one guitar in the mix, but Bruce's talent is such that he plays the three parts, bass, rhythm and melody, at the same time. And not just on recorded material where you can't see what he's doing but live on stage right before your very eyes!

Not surprising then that Bruce is purely an instrumentalist - he'd hardly have the time or room to sing!

His albums, and indeed his live set, contain originals and re-interpretations of old standards played with the deftest touch.

I cannot recommend this gig more than to say that it is always a phenomonal performance and one of the highlights of the year.
