Anne Behan award instituted
The late Dr Anne Behan and her work for the environment is being marked by the establishment of an award, which will be given to communities which promote sustainability.
The award has been instituted by Feasta, the Foundation for the Economics of Sustainability. The closing date for the inaugural award is 10 June.
Anne Behan died in February 2004, and the award will presented to communities who have tackled local problems and are trying to meet local, cultural, economic and spiritual needs.
The award criteria take into account a timescale over which any community has endeavoured to deal with such situations.
The prize is a perpetual trophy — a bog oak bowl hand turned by Anne’s husband, Ken Maye.
Feasta will also provide support for a 12-month period to the award winning community.
