Whatever you do, don't let them in!

"Whatever you do, don't let them in!"
"Whatever you do, don't let them in!"

The refrain in last night's performance of 'The Black Eyes' by the Kilcullen Drama Group Youth Theatre was a suitably chilling end to their first of two nights in the Town Hall Theatre, writes Brian Byrne.

For those present in the audience, it may certainly make some think twice about opening their doors to children seeking 'a penny for the Púca' (a phrase which will likely be unknown to the current generation of 'trick or treaters').

It was a large undertaking of Bev Clark's very creepy play, with no less than 17 of a cast (I think ... some played a couple of parts) which also included some of the Drama Group Seniors like Dick Dunphy and Fergal Sloan.

The play was directed by Wayne Donohoe and Eilis Phillips, and there's another chance to see it on Thursday night. Do.

Books and seasonal drama this evening

Clockwise from top left: Hazel Gaynor, Miriam McDonald, Jo Doyle, Donal Ryan, Lissa Oliver, Orla McAlinden, and Amy Gaffney.
Two events in Kilcullen this evening will offer intriguing hours for those whose interests are in books and drama, writes Brian Byrne.

Organised by Woodbine Books for Irish Book Week, there's a discussion panel in Fallons from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, featuring local authors Orla McAlinden, Hazel Gaynor, Maria MacDonald, Amy Gaffney and Lissa Oliver, and chaired by Jo Doyle. It will both be fun and an insight into how writers go about doing their work, and the event is a must for book-lovers and writing enthusiasts.

The first of two presentations of The Black Eyes: An Urban Myth? will be performed by young members of the Kilcullen Drama Group, in the Town Hall Theatre starting at 8pm. The play will also be performed on Thursday night. Tickets are still available from Berneys Chemists, or at the door.

Just because the Town Hall Theatre was busy with another gig didn't stop the Drama Group's Youth Theatre getting on with rehearsals for their 'The Teen Commandments'. Director Eilis Phillips just brought them outside to the banks of the Liffey to do their thing. Details of dates soon.
