Kilcullen swimmers take bronze in CG All Ireland


The Kilcullen Community Games Swimming Under 16 team won a bronze medal in the All Ireland Community Games Swimming Event on Saturday last, the 6th of July, in the Watershed in Kilkenny, writes Jean Mahon of the Kilcullen Community Games Committee.
The team consisted of Xavier Mahon, Tiarnan Donnelly, Daniel McNamara, Felix Mahon, Jack Higgins, and Conall Hoey (missing from the photo).
Well done to the boys, a great achievement.

National Indoor Soccer for Community Centre

The Community Games National Indoor Soccer Finals will be held in Kilcullen Community Centre on Sunday 28 May.
The event is for U10 and U13 Girls and Boys and will run all day from 9.30am-7pm, with children from all over the country representing their communities.
Enda O'Neill, manager of the Centre, says they are proud to be hosting this national event in Kilcullen.

Kilcullen Community Games news


Kilcullen Community Games art winners are going forward to the national finals in Carlow on the weekend of 27th August, writes Donna Hoey.
The Kilcullen representatives are U8 Girls Art, 2nd Lauren Phelan; U8 Boys Art, 4th Michael Dunne; U10 Girls Art, 1st Nikola Chumra (National Finals); U10 Boys Art, 1st Piotr Saternus (National Finals); U12 Girls Art, 1st Lena Dunne (National Finals); U12 Boys, 1st Billy Farrell (National Finals); U14 Girls, 1st Mae Cowper-Grey (National Finals); 3rd Misia Nikelwoska; Model Making, 1st U16 Girls Evey Brand (National Finals)
In Chess, our U16 Silver medals in the Leinster Community Games Finals were Noah Mahon, Sean Hoey, Oscar Monks, Joseph Hayes, James Cahill, Laura Brunkard and Gillian Grimes. Unfortunately the U13 team didn’t make it out of the semi-finals, however they played super well done to all the boys and girls. They were Xavier Mahon, Felix Mahon, Darragh Dunne, Keelin Barkers, Hugh Byrne, Billy Farrell, Matthew Tobin. The U11 winning team in Leinster and going forward to National all Ireland finals in Carlow weekend 27th August are James Brunkard, Conall Hoey, Alex Cahill, Ripley Evans, Ben Farrell, Rory Byrne, and Adam Finnegan.
Kildare County Swimming was held in Clongowes College in Clane. Kilcullen came away with a haul of medals on the day. Girls U8, 4th Freestyle Chloe Higgins; Boys U12, 1st Freestyle Jack Higgins, 1st Backstroke Felix Mahon, 3rd Backstorke Conall Hoey, 1st Breaststoke Daire Marshall; Girls U12, 2nd Breaststroke Ella-Louise Donnelly, 3rd Breaststroke Lena Dunne. Boys U14, 1st Freestyle Sean Hoey, 1st Backstroke Tiarnan Donnelly, 1st Butterfly Xavier Mahon; Boys U16, 1st Breaststroke Noah Mahon. Relay teams: U13 Girls Freestyle, 2nd Place the team: Katie Marshall, Ella-Louise Donnelly, Ruby Bennett, Lena Dunne; U13 Boys Freestyle; 1st Place team Tiarnan Donnelly, Xavier Mahon, Felix Mahon, Conall Hoey, Jack Higgins, Alex Tiwari.

Community Games Athletics tomorrow


Kilcullen Community Games
is restarting activities tomorrow evening with an Athletics event at Crookstown-Millview Athletics Club.
Registration for the event starts at 6.30pm in advance of  7pm beginning of the programme.
There are events for girls and boys in U8, U12, U14 and U16.
The Athletics Regional Finals will be held on 31 July.

Kilcullen Community Games 2020

Expressions of interest for the various programmes in Community Games are being sought by the local Community Games Committee, writes Brian Byrne.

There are two national Festivals planned for 2020, in May and August, each with its own list of competitive activities. Both Festivals will be held at the University of Limerick, and are sponsored by Aldi.

The May event will include Art, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cross Country, Debating< Draughts, Duathlon, Handball, Handwriting, Indoor Soccer, Marathon, Mixed Distance Relay, Model-Making, Projects, Quiz, Rugby Mini, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Talent (including choir).

 Disciplines at the August Festival will be Athletics, Camogie, Cycling on Grass, Field Events, Futsai, Gaelic Football, Gymnastics, Hurling, Pitch and Putt, Rounders, Rugby Tag, Skittles, Soccer Outdoor, and Spikeball.

Kilcullen Community Games Athletics

The Kilcullen CG Athletics event takes place this Thursday, the 6th of June, in Crookstown Millview Athletics Club, writes Papillon Rabbitte. There will be races from Tiny Tots right up to Under 16s.

A series of races based on the event list below and attending athletes will be staged —

Tiny Tots U/7 and below - 60M
Boys & Girls U/8 years Over 6 - 60M & 80M
Boys & Girls U/10 years Over 8 - 100M & 200M
Boys & Girls U/12 years Over 10- 100M & 600M
Boys & Girls U/14 years Over 12 - 100M & 800M
Boys & Girls U/16 years Over 14 - 100M & 200M
Boys & Girls Ball Throw U/12 years Over 10

Separate entries for field events will be submitted based on competence and safety, eg Shot Putt, Javelin, etc. If interested in field events please contact Neil Taylor or send a message via Kilcullen Community Games Facebook page.

Relay panels will also be established and may be based on race/trial results or on other criteria as laid down by the Kilcullen Area development Officer. Also if you are available to help on the night please let any of the committee members know or just arrive on the night and present yourself to any member.

Registration Fee - €3 for one Child, €5 for two or more children.

Registration at 6.30pm. First Race (Tiny Tots) at 7pm.

Busy month for Community Games

Swimming medals winners.
Over the last month, a number of County Finals have taken place at various venues around the county, writes Papillon Rabbitte of Kilcullen Community Games. We would like to express our gratitude to all those who help in organising these events and also to the parents who give their time to volunteer, whether it is in training the children or in helping to run the events.

County Swim Gala
The county gala was held in K-Leisure, Athy, over the course of two days. Congratulations to all the boys and girls who competed in the various swim events. They did Kilcullen proud bringing home a haul of medals including nine county medals from individual events and a silver medal in the team event. Our three gold medallists — Seán Hoey, Tiarnan Donnelly and Ella-Louise Donnelly — now go forward to represent Kildare at the National Finals in UL in May. We wish them the best of luck.

Gold medal winners: U8 Girls Freestyle, Ella-Louise Donnelly; U10 Freestyle, Tiarnan Donnolly; U12 Breaststroke, Sean Dunne.

Silver medal winners: U12 Backstroke, Turlough Donnolly; U13 Boys Squad.

Bronze medal winners: U8 Freestyle, Conall Hoey; U12 Freestyle, Sean Hoey; U14 Breaststroke Leo Williamson.

Pewter medal winners; U14 Breaststroke, Ciaran McNally; U10 Backstroke, Xavier Mahon.

Gymnastics
The county gymnastics final was held in the Excel Gym in Celbridge earlier in the month. Well done to Molly Stone who came 3rd and Lily Norris who came 4th in the U9 competition.

Quiz
The quiz was held in Sarsfields GAA. We had two teams on the night and they both put in a great performance, with our U14 team finishing 4th in the final. We hope everyone enjoyed the evening.

Cross Country
Congratulations to Ryan Sheridan from Kilcullen, who braved the weather and came 3rd in the county final of the cross country competition which was held in Milltown GAA. Ryan has now qualified to represent Kildare in the National Finals in Limerick in May.

Rugby
After a successful county championship campaign, our U11 rugby team entered the Leinster Quarter Final stage of the competition where they met Dalkey. After a great game of rugby, Dalkey came out on top. We would like to say thanks to all the boys on the team, the parents who helped with refreshments and the team manager Terry for volunteering his time to coach the boys.

Handwriting
Well done to all the boys and girls who represented Kilcullen CG in the county final of the handwriting. Kilcullen did very well and won three county medals. Congratulations to Shantayan Banerjee who won silver and Jessica Sandall and Jamie Griffin who each took home a bronze medal.

Swim Gala winners

Well done to all our fantastic swimmers who took part in the local Community Games swim gala recently, writes Papillon Rabbitte.

All medal winners go through to the County Final which will be taking place over two days in K Leisure, Athy. The Girls competition is being held on Saturday 23rd March, while the boys’ competition on Sunday 24th March. Registration is at 1.30pm each day.

Many thanks to Alma, Tara and Jean who provided coaching/training sessions in the run up to this event. Best of luck to everyone in the county finals.

County champions again

Congratulations to the Kilcullen U11 mini rugby team who became County champions again this year, writes Papillon Rabbitte.

The mini rugby blitz was held in Cill Dara RFC, Eadestown. There were five teams in the mix and all teams played against each other with the top two teams fighting it out for the county cup.

Kilcullen dominated and won all their matches before triumphing over Kildare Town in the final.

The Kilcullen u11 team, who currently hold both the Provincial and County trophies from 2018, will now represent their county in the Leinster competition.

We wish the boys the best of luck at the end of April.

Community Games swim gala on Friday

Kilcullen area Community Games swim gala will be held this Friday, 22 February, in the Defence Forces pool at the Curragh Camp, writes Papillon Rabbitte. Registration is at 7.30pm and the competition starts at 8pm sharp.

Competitors must be able to swim one length of the pool unaided.
There is a €3 charge per child(€5 per family).

Community Games update

The 2019 community games season kicked off on Friday 1st February with the Art and Handwriting competition, writes Papillon Rabbitte. This competition, which was held in Scoil Bhríde, has grown in popularity over the years with close to 100 children from the ages of six to 15 participating on the night.

We are very lucky in Kilcullen to have so many talented young artists and hand writers. There was a wonderful air of excitement and anticipation in the school as the youngsters spent the evening creating some truly fabulous pieces. We hope all those who took part enjoyed themselves and we hope to see you all again next year!

Our judges, Noel Scullion (Art) and Siobhán Murphy (Handwriting) were tasked with the extremely difficult job of choosing the winners and after much deliberation the medal winners are as follows:

County Kildare Art Competition
The county Art competition was held on Sunday, 17th February in the Patrician Boys Primary School in Newbridge. Kilcullen was represented in most age categories and took home a total of seven county medals. Well done to all who participated in the county competition and best of luck to Mae (U12 gold) who goes forward to represent Kildare at the National Finals in Limerick.

Many thanks to Noel and Siobhán for judging the competitions, to Anne Flanagan for the use of Scoil Bhríde, but most of all, a huge thank you to all the participants, who, along with their parents/guardians made this a very successful night.

At the events we collect a cover charge of €3 (€5 max per family) this is a contribution to much needed funds which helps us finance the associated running costs of the various competitions throughout the year. These expenses include our annual affiliation fee of €200 to Kildare CG, medals, referee fees, competitor entry fees to the county competitions, paper and printing.

The Community Games caters for both boys and girls aged 6 to 16 years, giving them an opportunity to take part in a wide range of sporting and cultural activities with a strong emphasis placed on fun, participation and developing active healthy lives.

In 2018, Kilcullen were well represented at County, Provincial and National level, participating in Athletics, Art, Swimming, Gaelic Football, Mini Rugby, Soccer, Table Quiz, Handwriting and Cycling…picking up some well-deserved medals and trophies along the way.

In 2019, Kilcullen area community games (Kilcullen, Brannockstown, Calverstown, Ballyshannon & Halverstown) hope to participate in the following: Art, Handwriting, Chess, Swimming, Gymnastics, Athletics, Mini Rugby, Gaelic Football and Table Quiz.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out at events, if this is something you would like to do, please get in touch with us through Facebook or through any of the committee members (listed below). Suggestions are welcome too, if there is an event which interests you and is not included on the Kilcullen plan for 2019, please let us know, it could be an option for 2020!

Art and Handwriting competition on Friday

The Art and Handwriting Competition for Kilcullen Community Games will be held on Friday next, 1 February.

A €3 entry fee applies per child. Registration begins at 6pm sharp in Scoil Bhride and competitions start at 6.30pm. Finish will be not later than 8.30pm (Art).

Parental supervision is required and assistance for event management on the night is always welcome.

Art Age Categories: U8 over 6, U10 over 8, U12 over 10, U14 over 12, U16 over 14 (Duration: 2 Hours - maximum).

Handwriting Age Categories: U10 and u12 (Duration: 1 Hour - maximum).

Please bring along own pencils, colours etc. Paper will be provided.

There will be no judging on the night, results will be announced at a later date.

Community Games swim training resumes

The Kilcullen Community Games swim training sessions which were suspended due to insurance issues, will resume on Friday of this week in the Curragh Pool.

The issue, which was at Community Games national level, has now been sorted.

The sessions will run from 8pm-8.45pm. Participants must live in the Kilcullen Community Games area, must be able to swim a length of the pool unassisted, and must be able to safely tread water in the deep end without the assistance of flotation devices.

They will also be required to compete in the Kilcullen Community Games Swim Gala at the end of the training programme.

The weekly fee for the sessions is €3 per child, or €5 for two or more.
