Is your business Brexit-Ready?

It was almost the forgotten crisis, but Brexit is back in the frame again as we get close to the end of the transitional period on 31 December, writes Brian Byrne. If you are a business that is likely to be affected by the final exit from the European Union by Britain, are you ready?

Local Enterprise Office Donegal has a free webinar tomorrow, 21 October, geared to helping you take the right steps. It's at 11am and key topics will include an update on the Brexit negotiations, the effect on trade with GB and NI, an overview of customs procedures and requirements, logistics, importing goods etc. A number of companies will also give a perspective on their preparations to date.

Booking is essential, and full details are available here.

Do you drive here on a UK licence?

Residents of Ireland driving with UK driving licences have been warned that time is running out for them to exchange these for Irish licences, writes Brian Byrne.

The ending of the Brexit transition period on 31 December 2020 will mean it will no longer be valid for a resident here to drive with a licence issued in the UK. In 2019, some 50,000 people made such an exchange.

Visitors to Ireland holding a UK/NI licence, will continue to be entitled to drive in Ireland as a visitor with their existing driving licence. Visitors won’t be required to carry an International Driving Permit in order to drive here so long as they carry their UK/NI driving licence with them.

Information on how to exchange your UK licence can be found at www.ndls.ie and on gov.ie/brexit.

Get ready for no-deal Brexit — Chamber

With Brexit back on the business horizon and looming closer, County Kildare Chamber is preparing a number of briefing events for local businesses, both those who export and those who import, writes Brian Byrne.

The Chamber says the stark reality is that a No Deal Brexit is very possible, and all businesses must prepare and engage 'for what we all fear will happen'. In the meantime the business group's membership is urged to sign up to Brexit Workshops on 5/6 October, hosted by Revenue, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine and the Department of Business, Enterprise & Innovation.

The workshops will include customs overview, the details of trading with Britain, trade with Northern Ireland, the use of the Landbridge to European markets, supports, VAT and Excise implications and more.

Day passes for each of the two days can be reserved here  and here
