Lexington student exchange 2026

The County Kildare student exchange programme with Lexington, Kentucky, is now open for applications for 2026, writes Brian Byrne. It is a collaboration between the twinning committees of the county and the US centre of horse-breeding.

The twinning connection has been in place since 1984, and the exchange programme allows students from Kildare to experience American life firsthand, while also welcoming a Lexington student into their homes. The exchanges take place during the summer holidays.

The initiative is open to students aged 16 and over from schools across County Kildare, and the full programme and application forms can be found at this link. The closing date for applications is Friday, 5 December.
