Cross and Passion College students can now participate in a new Model United Nations Club (MUN) established in the school as an after-school activity, writes Brian Byrne. It's open to all year groups.
The MUN simulates the real United Nations, with students taking on the role of delegates from different countries. In CPC, it's held on Monday afternoons from 4pm to 5pm.
Students research global issues, debate topics like climate change, human rights, peace building, and learn how to negotiate solutions. MUN is an opportunity to make friends and connect with other European students through Erasmus-funded International MUN conferences. Earlier this year, Sam Moussoulides, Aoibhe Toft and Eleanor Steed attended an MUN in Namur, Belgium.
The United Nations supports Model UN simulations by building and maintaining strong links between the UN and Model UN participants. It shares first-hand knowledge about the work of the UN at Model UN conferences and provides guidance to organisers to create accurate and authentic simulations.
