Tickets on sale for Dating Amber

On Wednesday, June 18th, to celebrate Pride Week, there will be a special screening of Irish film Dating Amber in Kilcullen Bridge Cinema, writes Teresa Nurse. This will be followed by a Q&A with writer-director David Freyne
Now living in London, David hails from Newbridge and is a past pupil of CPC Kilcullen. This movie will be a delight for local film fans who can enjoy the scenes shot around the Curragh camp and the plains of Kildare on the big screen.
Dating Amber is a gorgeous film that didn’t get the theatrical release it deserved in 2020 due to the impact of lockdown. It is a poignant, honest, and funny look at the highs and lows of teenage life, coming of age, and coming out. Set in Ireland during the mid-90s, Eddie and Amber appear as polar opposites — Eddie wants to join the Irish Army, and Amber wants to move to London to live an anti-establishment life. However, Eddie and Amber share one thing in common — they’re gay. To prevent their secret becoming public knowledge in school, they pretend to be a couple, and they must navigate their new status together.
Starring Fionn O'Shea, Lola Petticrew, Barry Ward, Sharon Horgan, and Simone Kirby, local actor Evan O’Connor shines as the scene-stealing younger brother. Freyne has described this film as a "love letter to Kildare … I truly think the Curragh is a hidden jewel in Ireland's crown. The vastness of it was made for cinema."
Don’t miss your chance to see this film on the big screen. There will be a drinks reception on the evening at 7.15pm and the film screens at 8pm. It is 1 hour 32 minutes long, leaving lots of time for a chat with David afterwards. The film is guaranteed to generate much reflection and discussion.
All tickets are €7 and are on sale in Woodbine Books Kilcullen and on Eventbrite.
