A call for proposals for National Heritage Week events has been made by the Heritage Council, writes Brian Byrne. Submissions can be made via the organisation's website
Describing Heritage Week as a chance to 'celebrate the stories’ that make the county unique, Kildare County Council Heritage Officer, Dara Wyer, said these include historical landmarks, beautiful natural heritage, and traditions. "This week brings our communities together, allowing people to explore, learn, and connect with the past and present in meaningful ways," he added. “We encourage everyone in Kildare to register their events and join in the collective celebration of our shared heritage.”
The 2005 National Heritage Week runs from 16-24 August, on the theme of Exploring Our Foundations. The festival is now in its 25th year with more than 2,000 events taking place across Ireland annually. Last year, Kildare hosted 84 events, among which were guided walks and hands-on workshops, musical performances, and heritage trails.
Event organisers must register through the Organisers' Portal. After registering, they can submit their event or project via the portal before the week begins. In-person events seeking local promotion must be submitted by Friday, 20 June.
