Speed limit changes tomorrow
A reminder that from tomorrow, Friday 7 February, all rural local roads will have their default speed limit reduced to 60km/h, on regulations from the Road Traffic Act 2024, writes Brian Byrne. Local roads in Ireland are prefixed by an L followed by a number.
Kildare County Council has installed new signage on the relevant roads, covered until tomorrow.
A 30km/h limit in built-up urban areas will apply from later in 2025 under the same regulations.
(It's worth recalling that in 2021 there were serious proposals to increase the Sunnyhill Road L6081 speed limit from 60km/h to 80km/h, highly criticised by residents and local representatives, which in the end were not enacted.)
