Martin Heydon is new Minister for Agriculture

Kildare South TD Martin Heydon has been confirmed as the new Minister for Agriculture writes Brian Byrne. He held a Minister of State role in the Department in the last Government.
A past pupil of CPC and a farmer in the Narraghmore area, he was elected to the Dail for the first time in 2011, having previously been a councillor in Kildare for a year and a half.
His upward trajectory was quite swift, appointed first to chair of the Agriculture Committee, then chair of the FG parliamentary party. As minister of state at the Department of Agriculture, he was reappointed there when Simon Harris reshuffled the cabinet. He was a member of the Fine Gael negotiating team in the recent formation of the programme for government.
He is married to Brianne and they have four children.
