White Christmas for Kilcullen cinema
On Wednesday December 18th there is a Christmas classic cinema treat for audiences in Kilcullen, writes Teresa Nurse of Kilcullen Bridge Cinema. The film White Christmas (1954) is a spectacular cocktail of dancing, gorgeous colour and well-known melodies.
Irving Berlin’s holiday ballad “White Christmas” is widely regarded as the most-recorded and best-selling song of all time. Introduced by Bing Crosby in the earlier 1942 film Holiday Inn, it won a Best Song Oscar and ranks among Berlin’s most popular works.
Directed by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca) the film tells the story of singers Bob Wallace and Phil Davis (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye), two Army buddies whose singing and dancing act becomes a big post-war hit. They become involved in a comical plot with a talented sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) to help a former army officer who owns an inn in Vermount. There’s no snow in sight for Christmas and the foursome plan a yuletide miracle.
To set the festive mood there will be a mulled wine reception at 7.30pm and film at 8pm.
Tickets are on sale in Woodbine Books and on Eventbrite.
