Power outages affecting businesses, homes

UPDATE: POWER RESTORED 13.03.
An electricity outage in Kilcullen is currently affecting more than 1,600 households, writes Brian Byrne. The traffic lights are out, so drive with care at the crossing. Most main street businesses are closed, but Brennans Hardware is OPEN until 1pm if anyone needs gas or torches or other items — their phone is not working. Daybreak is open for cash transactions only.
Among the closed businesses are Nolan's Butchers, Berney's Chemists, Bridge Barber, Applegreen, Berney Bros Saddlers, Nichola Kennedy Optometrist. The Kilcullen office of Kildare Credit Union will remain closed today. The Kildare office is open. Burkes Pharmacy is remaining closed today as they are unable to open the shutters with the lack of electricity — opening updates if power is restored early. The River Cafe is also staying closed, pending power restoration. Activities in Kilcullen Community Centre planned for today are curtailed doe to lack of power. The Coffee Hatch is closed today but will reopen tomorrow. Brannockstown Baptist Arts and Crafts project for this morning is cancelled.
Locally, Mark Steed reports a tree down across the road from Yellow Bog to Mile Mill and pulling wires down. Also some heavy branches down on McGarrys Lane near the graveyard.
According to ESB Power Check, the estimated power restoration time is 5pm this evening (this likely a default time in the system, on past experience the repairs are usually much faster). The electricity service was lost at 1.30am today.
There are similar outages in the wider Kilcullen area including Calverstown.

They are just some of many hundreds of outages all across the country in the wake of Storm Darragh, which brought very high winds with gusts of up to 141km/h recorded in Galway. Around 400,000 homes across the country are said to be without power.
The storm caused the cancellation of last night's Kilcullen Christmas Lights switch-on, and today's Christmas Fair in the town has been postponed to tomorrow, Sunday.
