'Final push' call for Field of Dreams funding
Kilcullen GAA has called on supporters to give a final push on the fundraising for the next stages of the Field of Dreams, writes Brian Byrne. In a video message, the development committee chairman Martin Murphy has provided an update on the project, on which work commenced in February 2023.
The plans had been made public the previous September for a second full-size pitch and two Juvenile training pitches, as well as a skills arena and new car parking facilities. A public walk and cycle way around the campus is also part of the development.
In his message, Martin Murphy says the earthworks phase will be completed in the next ten days, after which the pitch contractor will start work on the new pitches and related facilities. The 1.2km walk-cycleway will be completed in the autumn.
Appealing for further support, Martin Murphy highlighted the two current main fundraisers, the €100 Car Draw and the Kilcullen AbĂș Wall. People can sign up for both at this Saturday morning's pop-up Cafe organised by young members of the club.
Costed at just under a million euro, the development is on land acquired from Kildare County Council under a land swap arrangement which will eventually see the completion of the link road between Knockbounce and the Newbridge Road.
