An information session about the invasive species Himalayan Balsam on the Liffey will be led by a Kilcullen man on Monday 17 June, writes Brian Byrne. The event will be held at the Ballymore Eustace Community Resource Centre, starting at 7pm.
Dr Jan Baars and his team of specialists on invasive species control will present their work to date on the Liffey in Kildare on dealing with Himalayan Balsam and will give details of resources they have developed for communities since last year.
The session will include a walk to the Liffey for discussion and demonstration, and participants are asked to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for this.
Dr Baars, who works in the Invasive Ecology Lab in the UCD School of Biology & Environmental Science, has also been conducting a very successful pilot programme on dealing with another invasive species, American Skunk Cabbage.
The session in Ballymore, which is being hosted by the Heritage Department of Kildare County Council, is free to attend. Photographs use Policy — Privacy Policy
