Looking Back: Under the sign at the stile

When the need for signage to places of interest like St Brigid's Well was recently raised at the Kildare-Newbridge MD, it recalled memories for Kilcullen emigrant Andy Steed in the US, writes Brian Byrne. 

Andy sent these photos to the Diary in response, of photographs taken at the Jockey Stile, where there was then a sign to the 'Holy Well'.

The photos were taken before Andy left for the US in 1967, and are of (top) Maurice Baxter and Jim Greenway under the sign, and (below), Jim with Andy himself. Jim is another emigrant, having lived in New Zealand for many decades. All three friends remain in touch.
