Plaque for Community Centre Wall of Fame
A new plaque has been placed over the framed jerseys of Kilcullen Community Centre's Wall of Fame for international representatives, writes Brian Byrne. It was made for the centre by Joe O'Connor.
The initiative comprises each frame holding a ‘green jersey’ representing Irish international competition, provided by the person or their family, along with a citation and a photograph of them in action in their endeavour.
Prepared by Niamh O’Connor for the centre, and the first three displays were installed in February and feature transplant athlete James Nolan, World Ladies Strokeplay Champion Chrissie Byrne and European Ladies Strokeplay Champion Marian Courtney.
A number of further frames are in the process of preparation, and Centre manager Enda O’Neill is anxious to hear of other such Kilcullenites who have worn the national jersey who may not be on his list.
"We're deeply grateful to Joe O'Connor for doing this plaque," he says.
