Make a date for Driving Madeline
The next film showing at Kilcullen Bridge Cinema on Wednesday June 12th is Driving Madeline, writes Teresa Nurse of Kilcullen Lions Club. A heart-warming movie, set against the backdrop of glossy modern day Paris, it is a beautiful, intimate story of a woman in her nineties and a gruff taxi- driver.
Paris taxi-driver Charles accepts an early morning fare. His client turns out to be 92-year-old Madeleine, who is making the final journey to the care home where her doctors and family have decided she must live. Along the way Madeleine asks Charles to visit places in Paris that hold memories for her. Gradually the two learn about each other’s lives.
Line Renaud shines as the titular character, bursting with life from the moment she appears on screen (and winning a Tiantan award for best actress as a result). Renaud is a national treasure in her home country, France. At 95 she wholeheartedly pursues her career to this day with talent and dedication.
In this film Line Renaud’s co-star, Dany Boon, is no less wonderful as Charles, her jaded foil. Their undeniable chemistry is what makes the film work.
Don’t miss Driving Madeline, the last film from Kilcullen Bridge Cinema before a short summer break. To celebrate the conclusion of our successful first season there will be refreshments served at 7.30pm. The movie will show at 8pm.
