Deputy Mayor of Kildare Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer has welcomed the official launch of the new National Child Development Centre, for which ground was broken yesterday in Kildare Town, writes Brian Byrne. The launch event held at the Curragh Racecourse also heard a presentation (below) on the new Centre from Kilcullen-born Michael Landers, whose company emi architects won the contract for the design and building of the facility.
The NCDC is envisaged as a Centre of Excellence for the provision of therapeutic supports to children with additional needs, and will be the national HQ for the Sensational Kids organisation. It will provide state of the art facilities for helping children with developmental difficulties and will include special areas for therapy, training, and sensory treatment.
Sensational Kids has directly supported over 10,000 children from all over Ireland through its child development centres across Ireland. The organisation says more than 100,000 children are on public waiting lists for essential therapies in Ireland, and so far it has saved families in Ireland over €2.5 million in therapy fees alone, providing an accessible and affordable service for those in need. Sensational Kids also provides professional development training workshops for people working in the field.
Michael landers is also a longtime and very talented musician and accompanied last year's Kilcullen Twinning Group visit to Saint-Contest in Normandy, providing musical accompaniment to the Jennifer Landers School of Irish Dancing which also participated in the very successful trip.
