Drama Group considering Calendar Girls

With A Skull in Connemara recently left in smash hit bits on the stage, Kilcullen Drama Group are already planning an autumn production, writes Brian Byrne.
A strong possibility is Calendar Girls, and last night saw a large group of female members of the group at a reading of the play in the Heritage Centre.
Calendar Girls is based on the true story of a group of Yorkshire women who produced a nude calendar to raise money for leukaemia research under the auspices of the Women's Institutes in April 1999, after the husband of one of their members died from cancer.
Unusually, the stage play was developed in 2008 as an adaption of the 2003 British comedy film based on the story. A musical version, The Girls, was announced in 2016. Common to all productions is dramatist, screenwriter and songwriter Tim Firth.
