New Dunlavin-Newbridge bus service imminent

The planned new bus service between Dunlavin and Newbridge, via Kilcullen, may be commenced in April, following the selection of a contractor, writes Brian Byrne. The service is designed to provide a regular service through Kilcullen on a 7-day basis.
The tender competition for the service closed on 19 January, and the National Transport Authority says the project is in the 'mobilisation' stage, with an anticipated commencement 'early in Q2'. The statement adds that the actual commencement is subject to 'detailed checks on operational readiness' being completed with the operator in the next number of weeks. "More details regarding the operator and timetables will be advised in due course," they say.
The news has been welcomed by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, who says the initiative will give a "new lease of life to the many rural people waiting to use this service." The councillor was given confirmation last May that the service would be coming.
