Our local best-selling author Hazel Gaynor got great news from Los Angeles in the early hours of Tuesday morning, writes Brian Byrne.
The narrator of the audiobook version of Hazel's The Last Lifeboat, Billie Fulford-Brown, took home the 2024 Audie Award for Best Fiction Narrator.
"Still pinching myself," Hazel says in a post today. "Such a huge honour to be in the mix with such stellar names, and incredible news for Billie whose audio performance on the book is incredibly special."
The Audie Awards are organised by the Audio Publishers Association, and their 2024 event took place at The Avalon in LA. The event is the premier awards programme in the United States recognising distinction in audiobooks and spoken-word entertainment.
Billie Fulford-Brown was up against finalists Eunice Wong (for Land of Milk and Honey by C Pam Zhang), Ethan Hawke (The Eyes and the Impossible/Dave Eggars), Marni Penning (Johanna Porter is Not Sorry/Sara Read) and Meryl Streep (Tom Lake/Ann Patchett).
The audiobook version of The Last Lifeboat is published by Penguin Random House Audio.
