47.6pc of Kilcullen register turned out to vote

The final turnout figure in today's referendum in Kilcullen was 47.6pc, writes Brian Byrne. The figure is reflected against a national estimate where some parts of the country reached 50pc turnout.
A late surge in voting has been reported in many areas after a morning and afternoon where turnout was slow. At 3.30pm, 20pc of those on the register for the Scoil Bhride polling station in Kilcullen had voted.
At 5pm across the Kildare South constituency, the average rate of polling had reached 27pc.
Counting begins in the morning.
